In olden times snow shoes were vital for the mountain inhabitants to perform their winter working duties. Forest workers, hunters Indians and Trappers were all so familiar with this method of individual travel. Snow shoes were initially made by twisting tree branches or rawhide lacing to create a latticework effect to prevent the accumulation of snow - a quality called ‘flotation’. Nowadays the majority of snowshoes are made from light metal or plastic.
Show shoeing is a fantastic winter sport which compliments your winter experience. It is a unique way of walking with a snowshoe attached to each boot and with the aid of snow poles - a memorable way of exploring the beautiful areas of the Jungfrau Region. Snowshoeing is a fun, inexpensive and easy-to-learn winter sport for the whole family. Kids and adults, beginners and seasoned veterans alike, can enjoy the sport together. If you can walk, you can snowshoe! We adapt our tours for each level to whether and snow conditions as well as to the request of the clients.
